Emily Irene VanCamp originally wanted to pursue a career as a professional ballet dancer. But, while watching her sister Katie in the Ladies Room movie set, Emily began to be interested in acting. As she began taking acting classes, Emily Irene VanCamp also secured guest appearances in television shows across Canada. Some of the TV series she starred in include Are You scared to be in the Dark? Radio Active and Dice. VanCamp achieved a major success in his career when getting a role on Glory Days, the WB mystery horror show. It was cancelled after nine episodes despite receiving good ratings. On May 12, 1986, the actress was quickly offered a second part in Everwood. The character she plays Amy Abbott is one of the major characters. The role resulted in her being nominated for a Young Artist Award nominee and for four Teen Choice Awards.
